9:00 a.m. • McLean Game Refuge parking lot on Barn Door Hills Road in Granby

3.25 mile walk starting at McLean Game Refuge parking lot on Barn Door Hills Road in Granby. (Not the Route 10 lot.)

We will take the Werbitzkas trail through the Shiro Preserve area, taking a short jog on Chestnut Road to connect to the North Trail. We will take the North Trail to Grove Road, which we will follow until it intersects Ridge Road. We will ascend Ridge Road to the Summit Trail. Having taken in the view we will retrace our steps down Ridge Road and then follow Grove Road to the starting point.

In general, this is not a challenging route. It has some hills, but nothing very steep or with bad footing. The Ridge Road and Summit Trail segments will give us a bit of a workout. With the season come slippery leaves and "roller bearing" acorns under foot. Hiking poles and hiking boots will be a good idea. As always, water and perhaps a snack.
