Simsbury Hiking Club Hike

Saturday, September 19, 2026

9:00 a.m. • Penwood State Park, 560 Simsbury Rd., Bloomfield

Join us for a hike through Penwood State Park, with an optional side trip to the Pinnacle for views of the Farmington Valley and the ridgeline to the west.

We will meet in the parking lot and take the yellow trail, rather than the loop road, out of the parking area. We will follow the yellow trail along the ridge before taking a short side trail to the gravel road near Lake Louise.

From Lake Louise, hikers who would like an additional challenge can continue approximately 0.3 miles to the Pinnacle. Those who prefer to skip the Pinnacle can wait approximately 30 minutes at the picnic table near the kiosk at Lake Louise. Once the group reunites, we will walk down the paved driveway to the picnic area and field, where we will pick up the red trail and follow it most of the way back to the parking lot.

Hikers who prefer not to wait at Lake Louise may return to the parking lot on their own by following the paved driveway the entire way.

The yellow trail has rough footing with roots and rocky areas. It begins with an uphill section followed by moderate ups and downs along the ridge. The paved driveway offers good footing and is primarily downhill. The red trail is relatively level with comfortable footing.

The basic hike is approximately 4 miles. The optional Pinnacle side trip adds approximately 0.6 mile round trip.

Boots or sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Please bring drinking water and a snack if desired. Hiking poles may be helpful, particularly on the yellow trail.
